Hi there. Yes, you can use personal examples in Writing Task 2 (the essay) if they help explain your ideas. For Task 1, it depends on the type of test you’re taking. In the General Training test, using personal examples in letter writing is fine. However, in the Academic test, where you describe graphs or charts, personal examples aren’t appropriate.
