Good question. The “Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?” type of question falls under the “Opinion Essays” category in IELTS Task 2.

That’s because you’re being asked to give your opinion on whether the advantages are more significant than the disadvantages, which means you must clearly state your position and support it throughout the essay.
