The same case for 3rd person. But we shouldn’t use 1st person and 3rd person interchangeably.

Obviously I can’t write an opinion essay without “I”. So, if I use “I or my” in the essay, should I continue to use examples like “If you do this,” instead of “if someone does this” in effect, risking informality for cohesiveness?

It sounds like these sources have overcomplicated what you need to do. The examiner won’t count the number of personal pronouns you include in your essay. The most important thing you need to focus on is writing a strong essay that answers the question appropriately. Can you please help me by distinction between using personal or third person pronoun in writing task 2 in the introduction?
